As February light cracks curtains
I wake to your polka steps on the moss stage
your jet gloss costume, cheeky orange beak
bop beneath silver drapes of birch
though you’re only foraging
in this early dance of a new day
your blackbird theatrics
those small moments of fine tuning
spring notions of a dawn song
