Read this listening to Lazarus.
Bowie held a stainless steel glass
full of gin-heavy Martini. Turing twisted
the straw of a Bramble idly. A whirlpool
of crushed ice and sugar syrup. Under
intoxicating light a band thumped
beats of bass and blonde blues.
Turing & Bowie talked suits.
The ice blue Freddie Buretti
Turing wanted for one worthy
occasion. Every man should be
overdressed for one worthy
occasion. One worthy occasion
may begin with dirty drizzle
an apple injected with cyanide
or little in the diary. Little in the diary
but the possible and the impossible.
Bowie took a cheap biro
to paper napkin, thrummed
his fingers effortlessly on the bar.
Music notes, cipher, or stars,
Turing did not pry. Do you ever
wonder if you’ve been known
by a name too long? Turing could
not help but pry. My brother’s
suits are pressed at Ziggy’s.
Night teetered on the edge of
sun, cloaked by cigarette smoke.
