Summer day

(in memoriam Michael Scott)

An old man

sitting in the garden

a peacock lands

on the glaring whiteness

of my page

wings cave-painting-charcoaled,

amber, ochre, cerulean blue

a full-stop strikes out for the right-hand margin    .

the passing shadow of a bird

…doesn’t move

for fear

of disturbing

Night falls.
