Portadown

Black basalt walls

track ballast

between

platforms

two ladders –

one going up

to Belfast

– the other

down

to Dublin

the lines are fixed

to precast concrete

[& TURKINGTON &]

with ampersands.

Belfast

the line ends in Belfast

parallel sleepers

on beds of black basalt

turn there to here

parallel sleepers

behind curtains of rain

turn here to there

imagine the night train

behind curtains of rain

we see ourselves

imagine the night train

as vision resolves

we see ourselves

on beds of black basalt

as vision resolves

the line ends in Belfast
