Craig Ames is an established lens-based artist, undertaking self-initiated project and arts-based commissions. As a former soldier and Evidence Photographer in the British Army he has a particular understanding of his subject matter which informs much of his work. Alongside his practice he is also a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the Northern Centre of Photography, University of Sunderland and a speaker at academic institutions and symposiums.
Ames is also the director of warworks.net - a new online platform that seeks to generate new ideas, thinking and critical debate regarding the photographic representation of conflict, its effects and implications in the post 9/11 era. Supported by University of Sunderland this initiative is currently in the developmental stage and the platform is expected to go live in early 2015.
