High summer, and below

fields, like off-cuts on

a weaver's floor.

A dream, I thought,

until my father spoke

of the view from an old

Burren way. Confirming both

memory and his stubborness

in choosing the stony road.

Karen J McDonnell lives in the west of Ireland. Her writing has appeared in the Irish Times, Clare Champion, SINFreehand 5, CrannógBrain of ForgettingThe Stony Thursday Book and in the Words on the Waves, Wild Atlantic Words, and Poetry NI:Poems for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 anthologies. She has been published by poeticdiversity and the Sybaritic Press in the U.S.
